Tortoises and Turtles seem to be the same, but they are not. There are differences, which are given below.

Tortoise grows only two to four inches long, whereas a sea Turtle can reach four feet in length.

Turtles occur across a range of ecosystems from oceans to deserts to tropical wetlands, but Tortoises are purely terrestrial and will not be seen inhabiting water.

Tortoises have domed shells for protection on land, whereas Turtles have thin and slender shells for swimming.

Tortoises tend to migrate on a smaller scale, moving from the highlands to the coastal lowlands to lay their eggs, whereas Turtles are migratory, swimming thousands of miles and they return to the same beach on which they were hatched when they’re ready to lay their own eggs.

Tortoises are exclusively land dwellers, while Turtles spend most of their time in the water.
